Heritage Park of Kuala Lumpur – A Fantastic Nature and Heritage Excursion
The Tun Razak Heritage Park offers visitors a nature escape from all the action of the city center plus cultural and heritage attractions and more. Best thing is, many of the things to do are free, and others are quite low cost. Here is an intro to the attractions in the large 170 acre area.
Kuala Lumpur Orchid Garden
Housing up to 800 species of orchids. Visitors can also buy orchids to take home and plant. Open from 9am to 6.30pm. Entrance cost is free.
Kuala Lumpur Hibiscus Garden
Home to 200 hybrid hibiscus flowers, Malaysia’s national flower. Open from 9am to 6.30pm. Entrance cost is free.
Kuala Lumpur Deer Park
Home to the Mouse Deer, one of the smallest deer known to be. Open from 9am to 6.30pm. Entrance cost is free.
Kuala Lumpur Bird Park
Home to more than 3,000 birds of 200 species of local and foreign birds. More here
Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park
Home to some 6000 butterflies of 200 species. Open from 9am to 6pm. Entrance fee: RM18 and RM8 for children under 12.
Perdana Botanical Gardens
The oldest gardens in KL. Visitors can enjoy landscaped gardens, 100-year-old brazil nut tree, tropical fauna, fernery, lake and more. Open from 7am to 7pm and entry is free.
Erected to honor the fallen heroes of WWI & WWII, and the Malayan Emergency. Open from 7am to 6pm. Entrance cost is free.
The Parliment House which is built in September 1962 is still active today. You can request to watch parliamentary proceedings.
Islamic Art Museum
Housing some 7000 artifacts of Islamic art. Open from 10am to 6pm. Entrance cost: RM12 and free for children under 6.
The National Museum hosts exhibitions of Malay history and culture along with Colonial heritage. More here
Royal Malaysian Police Museum
Over 2000 items collected during the local Police forces history. Open from 10am to 6pm. Entrance cost is free.
Built in 1965 and representing the national religion of the country, Islam. Open from 9am to 4pm. Entrance is free.
Features observatory park, space themed picnic area, exhibition, a space theatre, and observatory. Open from 9.30 to 4pm except for Monday. Entrance cost is RM1.
You can catch an electric tram wich departs from Kuala Lumpur City Gallery and goes through two zones — the heritage zone covering the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka and the nature zone that covers the Tun Abdul Razak Heritage Park. The tram departs from the gallery at 9.30am, 10am, 2.30pm and 3pm. The whole journey takes around 45 mins, but you are free to hop on and off as you wish on a single ticket.
